Purposeful Parenting

Many are the plans in the mind of a man,
but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
Proverbs 19:21

When we began our parenting journey nearly six years ago, purposeful parenting looked a lot different than it does now. Maybe it should not have looked so different, but this season of refining, of tears and sleepless nights, of grief and loss, of worry and submission has brought me to the place where it is okay that our purposeful parenting journey does not and will never look like that of many of our peers, friends and family who we love.

We have found great freedom in letting go in this area and embracing God's good provision for us in our unique family. We have found wonderful encouragement in the support of other like-minded and purposeful parents living this same type of journey with us. Our entire past weekend was filled with the support and encouragement of like-minded families walking along side us in the same older-child, sibling group adoption journey. How marvelously wonderful it felt to be normal, understood, and accepted! And how precious for our children to find sweet fellowship, friendship, and acceptance without needing to explain or worry over hard parts of their past and present.

A weekend of encouragement was beautiful preparation for the day-to-day challenges that we have walked through this week as a typical part of our journey toward healing and wholeness as a family. Looking forward to meeting with other like-minded moms or the opportunity to send out a desperate prayer request email or to share sweet victories of trust and acceptance are precious blessings in this journey.

I'm so glad you had this opportunity! There is nothing more comforting than talking to someone who knows exactly what you're going through.

There is absolutely nothing better than finding others who face similiar challenges and joys. Knowing you are not alone is so, so helpful.
