Snow: Yet I Will Rejoice

Habakkuk 3:17-19
Though the fig tree should not blossom,

    nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
    and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
    and there be no herd in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
    I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
19 God, the Lord, is my strength;
    he makes my feet like the deer's;
    he makes me tread on my high places.

While many are complaining about our most recent snow storm, I am convinced that this April's snow-mania is evidence of God's sovereignty and power.  Understandably, the long winter has been truly hard on many.  While the snow is a marvelous testimony of God's power and creation, there are those who struggle with seasonal affective disorder, or who cannot get out in bad weather, or the widow next door who struggles to shovel her long drive way.  For others, the coming of spring and new life would be a welcome relief after a long and difficult winter.  Regardless if you are a winter-loving Minnesotan, or a snow bird at heart, we must realize that we have no control over the weather.  And very little control over so much else in our lives.  What an awesome display of God's sovereignty.

And so...

When the activities are cancelled,
And the tree branches are breaking,
And we are just thankful that we still have heat.

When the snow piles up,
And the driveway is blocked by the plow,
And the 511 website says no travel recommended.

When the winds blow,
And the roads are icy,
yet I will rejoice in the LORD;
I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
God, the Lord, is my strength;
he makes my feet warm in big winter boots;
he makes us delight in His creation, in snow forts and winter camping and snow ball fights.

Everyone helped to build the snow fort - it took nearly 3 hours!

Only these four braved the weather and slept there - ALL NIGHT!
Nic is now on his way to work, and the others are snuggled in their warm beds this morning.
