Retreat & Respite

I have seen God work beautifully through this hard season of our lives. Through trials He has revealed heart idols and caused us to treasure Him, allowing us to rejoice more fully in His blessings. It is because of this that I can look back on the past season of refining and see how truly beautiful that time was to me, as it crushed and broke me in many ways.

This weekend I have been given the gift of attending a quiet retreat with a friend from church. We are tucked away at a beautiful, little country house in the woods along a swiftly flowing river with time to read, pray, laugh, and delight in the Lord.

I will return home tonight and I look forward to it after such a peaceful time of reflecting on the goodness of the Lord.

When I return home we will have one more child sleeping there tonight, a precious child walking the road of older child adoption and struggling at home. A late night call from friends this past week brought us to the Lord in prayer - burdened for their hearts, for their home, and for a way we could offer our own broken, failed, and humbled hearts in service. God has allowed us to show His love through respite care, knowing we have been in that very place of need at one time. We trust in His provision, protection and peace as we seek to serve in this new way together as a family.
