Getting Back Up Again

Running is one of my favorite tools for stress management. While I don't really enjoy electronic devices and I'm not particularly gifted in using them, I do have an ipod that I use to track the miles I run and to listen to music that I choose specifically for running. It has to be music with a fast beat (so I don't stop running) and an uplifting message of God's sovereignty and grace.

In our home, Mr. Four-Year-Old thinks Toby Mac is cool. I'm not sure why, other than because it is just fun to say "Toby Mac." This particular child is very musical and enjoys a variety of musical styles, so it is neat to be able to hear him pick out musical instruments, musical styles and musicians as he listens to a variety of music. Just for fun I purchased the Toby Mac song Get Back Up. It is a good song for my running playlist. It is a good song for weeks like this when our kids have crashed in numerous ways and I am left to pick up too many pieces. It is a good song when I feel overwhelmed and forget momentarily that God calls out to my broken heart, too. This work of parenting hurt children is not glamorous, most days it's not fun, and sometimes it is downright discouraging. And God is sufficient for that.

We lose our way, we get back up again
It's never too late to get back up again
And one day your gonna' shine again
You may be knocked down, but not out forever.
