Just for fun I thought I'd share...
A few weeks ago we went grocery shopping. In my post on Living Large I mentioned that meal planning, and grocery shopping within a budget were two areas I am working hard to improve. Grocery shopping is a task that always includes some combination of the kids. While I enjoy their help and company at the grocery store, it often makes our trip more exciting because there are so many things to look at and talk and learn about.
During this particular shopping trip there was a coupon for several free packets of Kool-Aid on one package of something we purchased and the clerk at the check out asked if I wanted to run back and get them. Since I am trying hard to save money on groceries I opted to grab the free merchandise. One of the kids helped me pick out the colors while the other kids unloaded the car at the check out. We don't drink Kool-Aid. For every meal we drink milk or water simply because it is healthier and it is cheaper than adding other things to the menu. Soda is a special treat for birthdays or celebrations. I really intended to use the Kool-Aid packets to make homemade play dough. It was so funny when I got back to the check out and several of the kids gasped when the saw the Kool-Aid packets and exclaimed, "What is that?" For fun we had some with a snack for the afternoon, but after pouring all that sugar into the pitcher I decided that it was really okay for them to be sheltered from a life of Kool-Aid.
