Mother's Day morning I woke up to find a new little buddy ready to join our "brewed"...or brooder. In an attempt to max out our "animal units per acre" here, we decided to hatch chicken eggs. Aside from the fact that chickens eat wood ticks (which we have in excess here), it will be nice to have a steady supply of fresh eggs available. On average we go through at least 4 dozen eggs each week. The kids have had a great time learning about incubating, candling, brooding, and raising chickens. Since the first egg hatched on Mother's Day morning the kids said that I got to name it. I chose to name the little buddy Gilligan. In the picture below Gilligan is in the "newborn" state and not quite cute and fluffy yet. It is always an adventure here.
