James 1:2-4Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
It has been one of those weeks where little challenges, trials, difficulties, and burdens have piled up, allowing an opportunity to test our faith and produce some steadfastness here. Nothing big, but several little things all converging in a short period of time and allowing a great opportunity to depend on God.
In my weakness I worry that I ought to protect my children from some of these issues and trials. After all, they have already gone through so much. My husband is good to remind me that God allows us to go through these times and seasons so that we may be for our children an example of how to depend on God and turn to Him in times of trial, seeking His wisdom and sufficiency in all things.
In the midst of some really unpleasant things this week, God made His presence so beautiful during times of precious worship and prayer, and sweet family meal times where we can work through teaching and debriefing some tough subjects with our children. It is my prayer that these times and trials are ultimately producing steadfastness in both us and our children as we depend on and delight in Jesus Christ.
