A Time for Everything

Ecclesiastes 3:1, 3, 4
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
...
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

We are so excited to celebrate having another driver in our family!  This week Hugo took the written test to get his driver's permit.  While I have observed many parents cringe at this next big step in their child's life, I can honestly say I am elated!!!!!

I am proud of Hugo for his patience in getting to this place, more than a year after many of his peers, for trusting us for the timing and for waiting without a single complaint.  I am proud of him for the diligence with which he studied and prepared and learned about driving laws and safety.  I am proud of him for showing respect for our family and our expectations as parents.  I am proud of him for his mature and trusting perspective about getting his driver's license.

While many see this time of growing up and letting go as a sadness, I see it completely as a time to rejoice.  There have been many (too many) times for breaking down, weeping, and mourning in our lives together and individually before God brought us all together.  This is most definitely a time to build up, to laugh, and to rejoice!

Since getting his permit on Thursday he has driven us everywhere - to practice, to his game, to our homeschool co-op.  It has been great having another driver (even though we parents are still mandatory passengers until he gets his license), and great to be able to guide and teach him as he learns to drive with confidence.  For our large and busy family, it is extra nice to have another driver available to get everyone to soccer, dance, and other commitments.
