2 Corinthians 1:3-5Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.2 Corinthians 9:8-9And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. As it is written,
"He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever."
Today was a day of abundance in precious ways. Not an abundance of things, or money, or friends, or activities, but the abundance of grace, mercy and peace that washes over us as comfort in our time of need. Having shared in my sweet child's sufferings yesterday, God provided an abundance of comfort for my heart last night and today. He is so good. We are learning daily to treasure Christ in the midst of suffering and to trust Him as our sufficiency. Joyfully we receive these blessings (grace, mercy, comfort) so that we may abound in every good work. Through these verses I am reminded that I have not received this comfort to sooth myself or build myself up, but to freely extend this same comfort to those who are hurting around me. It is a precious abundance free to overflow in our lives.
