Many mice from our forrest will play inside the house without a welcome.
And get caught in the mouse trap.
And need to be removed repeatedly by super-hero teenage son.
And the kids will rake the leaves from the forrest only to have it rain the next day and bring down every other leaf in our forrest.
Due to the excessive leaves cluttering the gutters, the rain will find a leak in our siding or roof and come rushing in through the wall, ceiling, roof.
While getting towels to mop up the rain on the kitchen floor and trying to keep the ceiling from falling off, one child will discover that someone missed their intended target while using the bathroom.
After apprehending the bathroom offender, clean up will commence.
When checking in to supervise clean up, supervisor will discover that the offender had done a zealous job of cleaning (bravo!), using enough paper towels to wipe out a forrest.
The paper towels (totaling enough to instantly wipe out the septic system) were meticulously placed in the wrong receptacle - an un-flushed toilet - instead of a wastebasket.
Super-hero supervisor (mom) finds a way to remove paper towels from un-flushed toilet in overzealous clean-up job.
Bathroom floor is re-cleaned!
Kitchen floor is mopped up.
Window in kitchen is temporarily fixed up.
Walls and ceiling are temporarily patched up.
And then at 7 a.m., breakfast can begin.
This was the scenario only one of the days while Nic was in Scotland for work the past week. Overall it was a really good week. I must count my blessings that we managed so well together while missing him terribly. There were eight of us at home this week because we had a little buddy spending the week - but we all faired well, all things considered! No one ran away, had too many melt downs, hurt anyone (severely), got lost on their way to/from any events, or locked themselves in any rooms. No vehicles broke down, the well pump did not break, the septic system did not back up, the water softener functioned effectively, and no one needed to go to the emergency room! Everyone finished their school work, had time for exercise and play, and went to bed (almost) on time. After an unexpected landing in Maine due to a medical emergency on the flight, Nic returned home yesterday afternoon. We are so thankful to have him home! Certainly there are many reasons to rejoice, but the best reason is the sweet and precious presence of the Lord in our lives in the mist of Nic's absence and everyday.
Philippians 4:10-12
I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
